Archives for “music”

Dear Zoe, You are two years old, and it is absolutely crazy how much you have changed and grown lately. You’ve recently started going to Co-Op daycare, started jumping and doing somersaults, become fascinated with reading and writing, and singing and talking. You are always busy and high energy, and everyone thinks you’re adorable.

I have a confession to make. The real reason I haven’t been posting as much lately is because I’ve been working on this — converting my blog into the greatest Lisa Loeb fan site ever! Stay tuned over the coming weeks, as I will examine in great detail some of the following topics: Is Lisa [...]

Song Charts is a brilliant flickr group featuring songs interpreted as charts.

What you’re looking at here is one small slice of a waveform graph of my music listening habits over the last year, as recorded via last.fm. I generated this using the service at LastGraph, which makes it super easy by just giving your last.fm username and a date range. The guy who made LastGraph, Andrew [...]

So the guys in N’Sync have cameo roles in Star Wars Episode II. They play Jedi who get slaughtered by androids. Apparently they’re on screen for about a half-second in the background of a larger shot of lots of Jedi being killed. Here’s my question: Why does this bother everyone? Who doesn’t want to see [...]

Tonight, for the first time in about three years, Lisa Loeb played in Portland. KT and I have often joked that we’re probably the only two Lisa Loeb fans in Portland, as evidenced by the fact that she never plays here. We figured we’d be proven wrong tonight, since she wasn’t opening for anyone, but [...]

Last night, Annie and I got to go see the Ataris in concert. My cousin Deni is married to Kris, the lead singer, so she got us in free. The show was at the Roseland, so we watched it from the balcony because of Annie’s foot. I’d never watched a show from the balcony before, [...]

Last night was Annie’s birthday, so she decided that she wanted to go out to a place called the Java Jive. Despite the name and the fact that the place is housed in a building shaped like a coffepot, it’s a bar. An incredibly small bar with an overwhelming amount of tacky decorations everywhere and [...]

Last night, Annie and I and some friends from the radio station drove to Seattle to see a band we found out about by accident. St. Germain is an amazing French jazz/techno act. We had all listened to the CD which is amazing techno with jazz influences. But the concert was more like a jazz [...]

Tuesday night: I reorganize my record collection; I often do this at periods of emotional stress. There are some people who would find this a pretty dull way to spend an evening, but I’m not one of them. This is my life, and it’s nice to be able to wade in it, immerse your arms [...]

yuk… 80s music sucks. But I can’t wait until they have a “best of the 90s” station. I’ll probably hate it, because they’ll be playing the pop crap and not the 90s music I actually like, but it’ll still be cool just for the novelty value of an “oldies” station that plays music I grew [...]

There’s a feeling that you sometimes get… The morning after a really good party. A quiet moment in the backseat of the car three hours into a car trip. Things like that. The feeling is really hard to describe. I guess if I had to put a word on it, it would be peaceful. Happiness, [...]

Sorry for so long since the last update, but I’ve been busy with my ninja training. I’ve been spending all my time lately convincing the school that I am, in fact, capable of graduating. They’ve got these strange ideas about it taking “effort” and “work” to graduate. I’m trying to convince them that the qualities [...]

On my way to work this morning, I was thinking, and I realized that Y2K is almost upon us… and no one seems to really care anymore. There was this huge media blitz around it, and then we were almost at war, and everyone forgot about it. Then once the “war” ended, people had forgotten [...]

Tired. Very Tired. I skipped all my classes yesterday, which is bad, but I got some to sleep in and get some work done around the apartment. At about 3pm, Dave rolled into town. He came by to drop off his bag and say hi before going off to a pub I’d never heard of [...]
